Acts 11:1 - 13 May 5,2020

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Tale of Two Cities begins, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief,
it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness,
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us,
we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven,
we were all going direct the other way …”

The Ministry of the Holy Spirit

1) Receive the Holy Spirit

Acts 8:14-24

14 When the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had welcomed God’s message, they sent Peter and John to them. b 15 After they went down there, they prayed for them, so the Samaritans might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For He had not yet come down on c any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. d 17 Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18 When Simon saw that the Holy e Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this power too, so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”
20 But Peter told him, “May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought the gift of God could be obtained with money! f 21 You have no part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God. g 22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I see you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.” h
24 “Please pray i to the Lord for me,” Simon replied, “so that nothing you have said may happen to me

2) Baptized in the Holy Spirit

Acts 1:1-4

1 I wrote the first narrative, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach a until the day He was taken up, after He had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen. b After He had suffered, He also presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God. c
The Holy Spirit Promised
While He was together d with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise. e “This,” He said, “is what you heard from Me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” f

3) Filled with the Holy Spirit

Acts 7:55-56 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

55 But Stephen, filled by the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven. He saw God’s glory, with[a] Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and he said, 56 “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”
